After watching a TV cooking show in Chinese hosted by two airheaded bimbos in miniskirts, I thought my level of Chinese was slightly below airheaded bimbo as I could understand nearly everything the two bimbos said but not the other people on the show. But now I have a more accurate picture of my speaking ability after looking at my language partner's niece's Chinese language textbook. She and I were studying the same vocabulary. Her pronounciation and ability to speak is far better than mine -- something about being Chinese growing up in China, I think -- but we are studying the same words.
I have revised my Chinese level from "slightly below airheaded bimbo" to "like a seven year old with awful pronounciation, little innate grammar knowledge, and who can't speak in complete sentences".
